With an overwhelming advantage (177 votes out of 184 member States) the National Assembly of the United Nations elected Venezuela member to the ECOSOC.
This achievement is the result of the leadership of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela among the peoples of the South in terms of the struggle for their economic and social rights and the good reputation gained in that regard by President Hugo Chavez worldwide.
The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela will hold this position for the next three years, starting from January 2009.
Together with Venezuela, Guatemala, Saint Kitts and Nevis and Peru will represent Latin America and the Caribbean in the ECOSOC.
