Passport and visa/tourist card required. During your stay in Venezuela you should always carry your passport which should be valid a further six months. If required, always show your documents to officials. |
Customs |
When entering or leaving Venezuela, sums or values greater than three thousand dollars (US$ 3,000.oo) must be declared to the Customs authorities. Venezuela has an exit tax of US$ 40.00 |
Weather and Clothing |
Venezuela is a tropical country. Therefore, we recommend light garments but include a sweater in case it becomes cooler. If you are planning to go to the Andes, dont forget a thick jacket and socks, temperatures can go below 5 degrees at high altitude. The rainy season is from May to November. |
Currency |
Bs. Bolívar (bolívares - plural) The traveller can exchange foreign currency (US dollars and Sterling - we recommend you to bring US $.) in the Bureau the Change in most major cities and at the reception desk of most hotels. Credit cards are accepted in the main commercial outlets such as restaurants, shops and hotels, but only in the main cities and tourist centres. |
Language |
The official language is Spanish, but in most hotels and top restaurants it is possible to speak other languages, especially English, Italian, French and German. |
Electricity |
Venezuela and its islands have a 110v/60Hz cycle electric current. |
Health |
Private medical services are good in most cases, however it is a good idea to acquire an international insurance policy. Many of these agencies have representatives in Venezuela and offer an excellent service in emergency situations during your trip.
Tap water is not drinkable. Avoid unwashed raw foods and undercooked meats, especially in rural areas.
Yellow fever vaccination is recommended but not compulsory for travel in more rural areas.
If you travel to the Amazon or the Plains, it is highly recommended to protect yourself against insects; use a hat or cap, light boots. Never forget the sunscreen lotion, especially if you go to the beach and you are not used to a tropical sun. |
Transportation

Public transportation is free for children up to the age of four. Children under 12 and seniors over 60 years of age pay half fares. |

Most shops are open Monday to Saturday from 8:00 or 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Outlets in some Shopping Centers are open until 9:00 p.m. and are also open on Sundays from 10 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. |
